ABOUT
During the day Ash & Cengiz will take you on a journey through Blues dancing. The course is open-level, so if you’ve never danced before, or have some experience dancing blues these classes are for you.
Up-tempo blues dancing 10.30-12.00.
Blues is an exceptional music genre in that it has experienced continuity and development in its styles for well over 100 years. Within these dynamics, both high and low-tempo music are part of the eclectics that is blues music that implores for blues dancing. In this lesson, we will start from the basics and get you dancing to up-tempo blues music, exploring both movement and connection, to your partner and the music. Within the 90 minutes, we aim to give you a wide repertoire and the confidence to dance to up-tempo blues music.
Solo blues 12.45-13.45
During the hour Ash will take you through various ways in which solo movement can be used to be expressive in dancing blues. This will give you not only improved skills as a solo dancer but also help improve your partner dancing.
Close embrace 14.30-16.00
A main principle behind close embrace is that the whole body is used to dance, rather than with the arms or visual cues. Within close embrace, we create a union between ourselves, our dance partner, and the music that can allow for practically the entire body to be used as an instrument of expression. Within 90 minutes, we aim to give you the fullest repertoire and depth of close embrace to give you the confidence to dance in this unique dance style.
Party in the evening!
TEACHERS
Ash McDow – discovered blues dancing in London, in 2013 and fell in love with its energy, aesthetic, and diversity immediately. As well as continuing her learning from international teachers, since 2016 she taught weekly classes in London until moving to Duesseldorf where she continues to teach regularly across NRW. Ash’s favorite thing about blues is that it allows her to express herself creatively, and connect with music and people while feeling empowered in her body. Blues is more than just a dance… It is a feeling, that she loves to share and explore with her students.
Cengiz aka Dr. Akbulut Ph.D. (he/him) – first danced blues in the back room of a pub in Aberdeen, Scotland in 2012. Immediately caught by the dance, Cengiz has attended European festivals and has been teaching partner dance classes for the past 8 years, including Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, and Blues.
